Driving at excessive speed and operating a vehicle in a reckless manager in Colorado is inherently dangerous. To put a stop to drivers behaving in this way, law enforcement is out in force to catch them and give citations for their behavior. In some cases, the allegations are sufficiently egregious that there is an arrest. Although people should not drive recklessly and dangerously, that does not mean they should go to jail, lose their driving privileges and face other penalties for it. Having a legal defense to combat the charges is a person’s right and it is important to exercise that right to avoid the worst consequences.

A man was arrested on numerous charges related to speeding and reckless driving. The 31-year-old was seen by witnesses who contacted law enforcement at around 8:15 p.m. The vehicle, a Dodge Challenger, was reportedly driving at significant speeds and changing lanes recklessly. A state trooper saw the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. However, the driver allegedly sped off and reached speeds of 130-mph while running onto the shoulder of the road.

The trooper ceased the pursuit due to heavy traffic, but another off-duty officer saw that the vehicle had crashed and rolled over. The driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. He was arrested on numerous charges including reckless driving, speeding, no insurance, driving under the influence and more. The investigation is continuing.

There are many penalties that a driver who is convicted or reckless and careless operation will be confronted with. Despite the perception that an arrest on these charges when no one else was injured should not be a major problem, it can negatively impact a person’s life. Jail, fines, a criminal record and lost driving privileges are just some of the penalties that can be assessed. This is before even considering that there was also a DUI allegation.

No matter the situation, it is vital for a driver to have a law firm that is experienced in helping clients who have been charged with major traffic violations. Perhaps there was a legitimate reason the driver was behaving recklessly. There could have been a medical issue. Or the officers might have violated protocol during the investigation and arrest. Before doing anything else, anyone charged with reckless and careless driving must call an attorney for guidance. This is a key factor in a successful outcome.
