It’s true that marijuana products are now legal in Colorado. You can buy them for medicinal purposes, and you can also buy them for recreational purposes. Colorado was one of the first states to make this change, although many others have now followed suit.
However, one mistake that people make is thinking that they can’t be arrested for marijuana in Colorado any longer. The truth is that there are still many ways in which you could face legal charges, even though use is now legal, and you won’t be arrested for mere possession of a small amount of marijuana for personal use.
Underage use
For example, like with alcohol, marijuana can only be purchased or possessed by those who are at least 21 years old. You could be arrested for having or using it while you are underage, or for giving or selling marijuana products to someone else who is underage.
Authorized dispensaries
Speaking of marijuana sales, they can only be legally completed at a registered dispensary that has been established within the bounds of the updated marijuana laws. Individuals who are over 21 can sometimes share small amounts, but they can’t sell marijuana products under the table.
Traveling out of state
Finally, Colorado residents must remember that it’s illegal to take these products outside of the state. They are only legal within Colorado. It would still be a violation of the laws in another state where marijuana is banned, even if those products were originally purchased at home.
If you find yourself facing serious criminal charges and allegations of drug crimes, be sure you know what legal defense options you have.
